The Hale neighborhood, named after Nathan Hale, a famous 18th century American revolutionary figure from Connecticut, is a quiet and recreational oriented residential neighborhood located in southeast Minneapolis. Hale is bound by Cedar Avenue to the east, Minnehaha Parkway to the north, Chicago Avenue to the west and 55th Street to the south and Chicago Avenue on the west.
The highlight of Hale is beautiful Lake Nokomis, located in the southeastern border of the neighborhood. Surrounded by Lake Nokomis Park, this lake was named "Best Place to Get Away without Leaving Town" by the City Pages in 2008. One of three sailing lakes within the city of Minneapolis, Lake Nokomis offers residents an abundance of recreational activities including swimming beaches, miles of walking and biking trails, playgrounds, concessions, fishing docks and several baseball, softball and football fields. All of these amenities are within walking distance for residents of the Hale neighborhood.
Minnehaha Parkway, which is the northern border of Hale, follows Minnehaha Creek for 12 miles from Lake Harriet to Minnehaha Park to the east and is popular amongst neighborhood residents for biking, walking and jogging. Many families live in Hale and there are two centrally located schools within the neighborhood. Hale Community School is part of the Minneapolis Public School system and serves 4th through 7th grades, and Our Lady of Peace is a private Roman Catholic school for grades K through 8.
