The Bottineau neighborhood, named after Pierre Bottineau, a 19th century frontiersman and explorer who owned land in the neighborhood, is a quiet neighborhood located minutes from downtown Minneapolis along the banks of the Mississippi River. This northeast Minneapolis neighborhood is bound by the Mississippi River to the west, Lowry Avenue to the north, University Avenue to the east and 18th and 17th Avenues to the south.
Bottineau is a diverse neighborhood and is characterized by light industrial buildings along the southwestern edge of the neighborhood and along the Burlington Northern Railroad tracks, with residential, commercial and green space scattered throughout the remainder of the neighborhood.
Bottineau features several unique establishments, particularly along the Lowry and University Avenue corridors. Here residents will find neighborhood landmarks such as Jax Café, Little Jack’s, and Gasthof Zur Gemutlichkeit, a popular German themed restaurant and tavern and home to a large Oktoberfest in the fall. The park also features an in an indoor recreation center, known as Bottineau Field house. The west side of the neighborhood is home to Gluek Park, a 2-acre park that sits on the site of the old Gluek Brewery and adjacent mansion. The park features walking paths, gardens, stunning views of the Mississippi River and plenty of open green space for a picnic.
Edgewater Park is also located in the Bottineau neighborhood along the Mississippi River and features wide open green spaces, picnic areas, walking paths and amazing views.
