The Kingfield neighborhood, named after Colonel William King, a prominent 19th century Minnesota congressman and abolitionist, is a friendly and conveniently located neighborhood in southwest Minneapolis that is bound by Lyndale Avenue to the west, 36th Street to the north, Interstate 35W to the east and 46th Street to the south.

Kingfield is largely a residential area of single-family houses built before 1920 with some multi-family residences and apartment buildings scattered throughout. There are also commercial areas with businesses to serve the residents of Kingfield with a variety of goods and services, mainly located along Nicollet Avenue, the main street that runs north/south through the neighborhood. Martin Luther King Park, located on Nicollet Avenue on the eastern side of Kingfield, is a popular neighborhood park that features baseball and softball fields, basketball court, tennis courts, volleyball court, picnic areas and a playground and wading pool for the neighborhoods youngest residents. Plans are also in the works to create a large off leash dog area within the park as well. The park also features a large architecturally unique recreation center that has an indoor gym and field house.  This popular center also features activity rooms, computer labs, craft rooms and is used often for various meetings and activities.

Kingfield residents enjoy their central location and the several bus routes that travel throughout the neighborhood.  In addition, the new transit station being built at 46th Street and Interstate 35W will only create more public transportation options for Kingfield resident. For commuters, the 35W interchanges at 36th Street and 46th Street provides quick access in and out of the neighborhood for Kingfield residents.

Kingfield is a culturally diverse neighborhood with a good mixture of empty nesters, working professionals and families. There are several churches scattered throughout the neighborhood of different denominations and there are a variety of unique schools spread throughout Kingfield including, Lake County School (grades K-8), Incarnation School  (grades K-8), San Miguel Middle School (grades 5-8) and Pilgrim Lutheran School (grades 1-8).

Owner occupied homes make up 62% percent of total households in the Kingfield neighborhood and the average median household income remained slightly higher at $51,935 per household as compared to an overall household income for Minneapolis of $37,974.
