The Cedar-Riverside neighborhood, named after the two main avenues in the neighborhood, is a vibrant, culturally diverse and conveniently located neighborhood located in-between downtown Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota’s West Bank. This triangular shaped central Minneapolis neighborhood is bound by Interstate 35W to the west and north, West River Parkway and the Mississippi to the north and east, and Interstate 94 to the south.

Cedar Riverside is very diverse and is home to college students, working professionals, immigrants and a host of cultural and entertainment attractions. The neighborhood is located next to the West Bank, which is home to the University of Minnesota’s Law School, Carlson School of Management and West Bank Arts Quarter The neighborhood also features two other college’s,  Augsburg College, a private liberal arts college and the College of Saint Catherine’s Minneapolis Campus.

Fairview Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital, now part of the University of Minnesota Medical Center, are very prominent in the neighborhood taking up a good portion of the southeastern section of Cedar Riverside.

Cedar-Riverside features several cultural attractions and theaters including, the Mixed Blood Theatre CompanyBedlam TheaterTheatre in the Round, and the Southern Theater. Due to the neighborhood’s close proximity to the University of Minnesota, there are several well known and popular music venues throughout Cedar Riverside, the 400 Bar, the Red Sea, The Acadia Cafe, Palmer's, the Triple Rock Social Club, and the Cedar Cultural Center.

The northwestern portion of the neighborhood is known as the Seven Corners district and is a popular dining and entertainment area that features several pubs, restaurants, bookstores hotels and bohemian shops. Further south along Cedar Avenue, there are several ethnic restaurants, markets, bazaars, bookstores and service oriented business that cater to the high number of immigrants in the neighborhood.

Cedar Riverside is also located in close proximity to recreational amenities. Along the east border of the neighborhood is West River Parkway, a scenic drive that follows the Mississippi River featuring miles of walking and bike paths, with several tennis courts located along the way. This winding and scenic parkway, which begins in Minnehaha Park, traverses north to downtown Minneapolis and is part of the Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway that directly links the Cedar Riverside neighborhood to miles of paths, trails and parks throughout the city of Minneapolis. Additionally, Murphy Square, located in the southern portion of the neighborhood, is the oldest park in Minneapolis and features an abundance of wide open green space, walking paths and picnic areas.

Cedar Riverside is also connected to the Hiawatha Light Rail Line, which has one stop in the neighborhood, allowing residents to hop on the train for a short ride north to downtown Minneapolis or south to the Mall of America and Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport.

The neighborhood contains mostly renters, with owner occupied homes making up just 10% percent of all households in Cedar Riverside. Average median household income is $14,367 per household as compared to an overall household income for Minneapolis of $37,974.
